The chinese government has a think tank producing their own localized Linux distribution, called Red Flag linux. There are reports in the chinese press that the government will forbid the use of windows 2000 on government computers in favor of Red Flag linux. So far these are just rumours, but there is no doubt that there is a lot of interest among government agencies in Red Flag linux, and Microsoft is an enormously unpopular company in China because it is seen as a monopolist and a bully for suing the locals over piracy.
