Of course I fighted with AbiWord.profile a lot.
It also itself behaves very strange:
I put in it
<Scheme
name="_custom_"
SmartQuotesEnable="1"
/>
run AW (smartquotes are not activated, though the check in preferences
dialog is there), close it, look at AbiWord.profile and see that this section
is gone, and SmartQuotesEnable="1" is moved to _builtin_ scheme.
I run AW without modifying AbiWord.profile - again - no smartquotes (though
the check in dialog is still checked.
Of course I keep $LANG=en. And I didn't modify remap glyph table.
I have an impression that loading of preferences doesn't work properly - I
was unable to enable statusbar. I think sombody with enabled smartquotes
should try to disable them and see whether he succeded (i.e. managed to
disable them) - so we should at least know that preferences' loading still
works. But I suspect nobody will be able to change their settings (at least
with respect to smartquotes).
