build failure in psiconv?

I updated my view to see the cool new lang work, and am having trouble 
getting psiconv to build (VC5, NT$, Cygwin 1.1.8) after a make realclean. 

Specifically, it's complaining about redefinition of strdup, which seems to 
be a conflict between the definition in compat.h and my local copy of 
string.h.  

However, this doesn't make sense, because the configure step claims to 
recognize that I *do* HAVE_STRDUP. 

Any suggestions where I should start looking, oh autoconf gurus?
