Just for the record, Word97 shows both automatic and manual page
boundaries, and they are distinguishable:

Automatic page boundaries are shown as a dotted line.  The dotted line
is "sparse" compared to the dotted line for manual page boundaries --
see below.

Manual page boundaries are shown as a "dense" dotted line and a "Page
Break" label on the line.  
The "dense" dotted line has round dots fairly close together, but it is
recognizable as a dotted line.  The "sparse" dotted line (for the
automatic page breaks) has about half as many dots (like every other dot
is blank).

I think it is helpful that both automatic and manual boundaries be
displayed, helpful to me and the other Word97 users we hope to encourage
become x Word users.
