First place I looked when it didn't work for me. I've had similar problems before and I'm one of Abi's internationalization guys so I ought to know (: The .po, the .strings, and the LabelSet file all have a field for declaring the encoding. Win2K AbiWord should've still drawn some chars incorrectly. Vi would've used the right encoding because of your system locale, just like Mozilla. Probably why you didn't notice anything. Encodings are hard to understand.
