It would not work, the transparency is attribute of the colour, not of 
the run, and it has to be able to propagate down from the containers.

Anythings that lookups bgcolor property can be transparent ...

just for the record, I am currently not able to work under Linux (have

I have done my profiling on win32, and at the last run pretty much all 
of the top functions in terms of time were those interfacing to system 
graphics calls -- font setting, width measuring, etc. So I would not be 
surprised if the gtk2 has something to do with it.
