I try to keep quiet on this, but I cannot. So here are 2 more cents for a total
of 4.

I vote and stand with the concept expressed by Paul Rohr, that this is "document
oriented" program. If I close a document, I want it closed. I do not want a
blank document left over, just because it happens to be the last abiword
document I have left on screen(s). I don't want any stray gui windows left
over. I don't want abiword cluttering up my memory.

If I want a new document, all I must do is type 7 characters a,b,i,w,o,r,d,
plus of course a return. I often add a & at the end to avoid tying up my window
(so that makes 8), though eventually I'll include that in the startup script.
Personally, I can handle that. In fact, I find the typing generally easier than
the clicks involved in opening a new window from an existing open document
(moving workspaces, finding, maximizing document, etc), and would prefer
(enhancement request), that if I type abiword& at the command line that if
already running, a subprocess would be spawned rather than starting a new one,
but that is another topic entirely.

Having abiword leave a blank document when the last open abiword document is
"closed", but not leave a blank document if there otherwise happens to be a
document open would be to me (and is, given some applications) the inconsistent
behaviour.

I hope I don't have to go to 6 cents.
