I came across the following fix on the Abisource developer's mailing list archive whilst trawling Google. The message was dated July 2001, so Lord only knows why they haven't updated the FAQ yet :)
To get MS truetype fonts working in Abiword, follow the instructions in the FAQ (i.e. move the abiword fonts out of their folder and copy or symlink your MS fonts there), *then* type the following command as root: /usr/share/AbiWord/bin/ttfadmin.sh /usr/share/AbiWord/fonts/ This should produce quite a few lines of console output as the shell script ttfadmin.sh processes the substitute fonts. Then launch AbiWord, et voila! Pretty truetype fonts instead of ugly Abisource Type1. N.B. This works for the current abiword-gtk-0.9.6...rpm version - can't comment on earlier ones which didn't use the abiword-fonts rpm. Enjoy! Anne
