Yeah, I guess thats why Abiword is around, since most people can't / don't want to understand LyX and LaTeX.
My friend is one of these people, she doesn't have time to learn programming, she is a chemist and has enough work already. That's why I'm considering (most likely will) write a frontend to LaTeX that is custom-made for chemistry. It's not a lot of work in Tcl/Tk (I hope ;). I remember trying LyX once, and I didn't bother using it again, straight LaTeX was easier.
