why is "items are sorted" not enough and it makes sense to mention the
sorting algorithm?
The problem is that if you take out the last bit, you get "If the value
is ascending or descending this indicates that an object's elements are
sorted." Linguistically, this sentence suggests that both values just
indicate sorting, not which direction (even though this will be guessed
by most people). Perhaps it'd be better to write "The value can be
either ascending or descending and indicates the order in which an
object's items are sorted."
