Hi, maybe as a final note on this topic in case anyone else runs into the issue and finds it on the public archive:
I ultimately reverted back to Mate desktop for simplicity and space reasons; I did not have to do anything special for LibreOffice itself--the version installed via task-mate-desktop metapackage works fine on the Trixie-based image (I presume even the one based on Bookworm would work). However, I did have to set various gsettings accessibility flags as per https://wiki.debian.org/de/Accessibility/Orca#Autostart_von_Orca (source in German).
