hi asif, good to know that you are in cii core group on disability. i have some suggestions; 1(cii started an access audit of some of its member companies two years back. you could ask for the results and compliance. also if the activity was subsequently carried out across all its member companies. 2(regular sensitisation programs for all employees. they need to be sensitised towards disability and the needs of the disabled. more so in the so called sunrise industries like bpo's and it, as workforce in these companies are of the younger age groups and have total disregard towards disability and disabled as their immediate concerns are quick and good money, faster promotions trips abroad. as part of sensitisation these companies should take their staff to visit ngos. this is being done by some companies in gurgaon. 3(disabled employees should be given an opportunity to meet their seniors and be allowed to have frank discussions with them. 4( all member companies should produce a policy document as far as persons with disabilities are concerned. this policy document should clearly state recruitment policy ( advertisements should specifically state that they are equal opportunity employers, interview board should comprise of a disabled person, presence of interpreters, scribes if required ), leave policy, promotion policy, maybe flexible timings if required, transport arrangements, accessible work stations provision of aids and appliances special software, medical insurance and importantly an unbiased accessible grievance redressal committeeand 5(lastly of course employment facilitation. except for the bpo and it industry which is to a little extent providing employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, being plagued with high attrition rates, the traditional industry of manufacturing etc are not proactively looking into employment. for starters they should look at employment of disabled in all positions which have been identified by the government in their jjobs like accountants, hr professionals etc etc would be great if you can post your post meeting feedback. rajive ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mohammed Asif Iqbal" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2006 12:07 PM Subject: [AI] CII (confederations of Indian Industries ) role document
