The 2001 sensus puts this figure at little above 20 million.

NSSO survey puts the fugure of persons with blind at 2.8 million against the
figure of 10 million projected by the sensus.

The NSSO survey is the one being followed by the government for resource
allocation and planning purposes.

There are quite a few publications that put all these figures together. A
book was released by Ministry of social justice and empowerment which had an
article as notes of presentation made by Ms. Rajvant Sandhu (Jt Secretary
MSJ&E which highlighted only on these issues and presentated many tables
giving rural urban figures and male female figures on various parametres
like these.

Thanks
Dipendra

I would start on this thread by modifying the subject. Yes, I would
certainly appreciate any information on this.

Thanks,
Kiran.

Folks:

Need this detail for my research --is there an actual estimate on the number
of PWD's or VIP's in India? Suggest a best source to find out this info?

Kiran:

Since you are working on gathering info for the site, don't you think it
will be better to put up certain facts about disability in India? And, don't
you think we should have the actual no (based on studies or
sensus) of disabled persons in India?

Subramani

hi there,
i never used any sapi 5 voices earlier. i applied the steps as instructed by
u. the results were wonderful. i enjoyed the daniel voice for the purpose of
reading. like Aruni i would also like to know if ther any persons
distributing voices like these in India and what nmay be the anticipated
cost of these voices.

sadly, daniel voice shall be with me for the trial period only, i expect. i
am quite accustomed to the jaws elloquence and find it quite tasky to follow
the voices as pronounced by sapi5 microsoft sam.
for now i shall bear with the pace of the other sapi voice and remain
thankful to you.

thanks and regards,
muffi.
