Yes, Epson is still my preferred choice of scanners. They are extremely fast and offer very good scan quality. But I couldn't find one in India when I was looking to buy it a couple of years ago. I had to import it from Singapore.
Unfortunately, I am not aware of the low end models available these days and their performance. For my scanning needs, I am now using an HP Scanjet 8200 which is a legal sized scanner and scans a full page (legal) in less than 6 seconds. But this thing costs upwards of 27000.
