TAMBARAM: Students these days take various forms of public and personal
transport to reach their examination centre. But an ambulance?
A 15-year-old girl, who survived a nasty accident a couple of days ago, has
been taking an ambulance to a school in East Tambaram the last two days to
appear
for the ongoing X standard public examinations. M. Suryakala of Misrimal
Pukhraj Bhora Government Girls High School writes the examination confined to
a stretcher.
The girl while riding a bicycle was knocked down at Rajakilpakkam by a bus on
Saturday. She was dragged for about 20 feet. Ms. Suryakala sustained serious
injuries in the abdomen and legs.
Undeterred by the trauma, the girl who has an external metal fixator implanted
on her left leg, has shown steely resolve not to miss her examinations. Her
parents, Murugan, a private leather company employee and Manjula, said at first
they had little hope of their daughter getting back in shape in time to
take the remaining examinations, considering the grievous injuries.
Maruthi Rao, an orthopaedician at the speciality hospital, said the injuries
were serious and the student demonstrated exemplary courage during treatment.
