I've read the 94 page book. Its a good job indeed. I'd like to make some critical comments and observations.
1. The foreword to the book written by Mr Javed Abidi is very engaging. However it would have been more engrossing if the details of the drafting of the PWDA were provided to some extent. Who drafted the Bill and were people with disabilities consulted? I'd like to draw attention to a report published by IndiaToday on November 30 1988. It read out block quote A draft bill prepared by the Ministry of Social Welfare - for introduction in Parliament during the ongoing winter session - incorporates many recommendations of the Baharul Islam Committee, which had suggested in its report submitted on June 30 that the Constitution be amended to reserve the following for handicapped people: Four per cent of government jobs at all levels. Four per cent jobs in all public sector units. Four per cent jobs in all private sector units with more than 100 employees. Three per cent executive jobs in all private sector establishments with over 100 employees. The Editors' of the book note that the 20 stories from twenty states are covered. However while reading the book one finds that more than one stories from couple of states are featured. It is great to see stories from J&K and the northeast are covered. Moreover, careful reading of the book gives a feeling that The majority of stories in the book were also given wide publicity in the media. All-in-all, its a good collection.
