yes its free for ever if you have a licensed or oem version of windows 7 8 and 8.1 but you have to upgrade before july 29 2016 if you dont upgrade till that date then you have to pay. this date may change at any time. it looks like microsoft may extend the time but dont wait. upgrade as fast as you can
