The Blind Relief Association, Delhi WORKSHOP ON CAPACITY BUILDING FOR NEW JOB OPPORTUNITIES (27 – 28 August 2016) Concept Note Target Group: Visually impaired youth with Class XII education and above No. of Participants: maximum 40 In recent years we are witnessing a phenomenal rise in the number of young blind personscompleting school education and pursuing higher academic and professional studies. Also the advent of IT, through significantly bridging the digital divide, has ushered in revolutionary change in the life of the visually challenged. Consequently, their aspiration as equal member of society enjoying meaningful employment with good career in the government and private sector has also grown. The statutory 1% reservation of jobs in the government and public sector undertakings has opened the doors for employment of persons with visual impairment in such establishments. However, many of the employed youth are not given proper placement, and are just adjusted here and there, leaving them dissatisfied. There is no similar statutory compulsion on the private sector. Barring some exceptions, there is a general lack of awareness due to which even competent and capable visually challenged persons do not come under the radar of private sector. Therefore, there is much need to focus on young adults with visual impairment to be guided in building up their competitive capabilitiesand acceptability in the employment market. At the same time, itis important that the potential private sector employers be also sensitised and made aware of the capabilities of visually impaired persons, so that they induct them in their workforce as efficient and productive members. The planned 2-day capacity-buildingworkshop, with panellists/resource persons drawn from public and private sector, seeks to address the above issues, in the following 8 sessions. 1. Introduction-Present Session, Challenges and Strategies. 2. Job Opportunities in Various Sectors.-Making appropriate choice. 3. IT in Work Place. 4. Interaction with Panel of HR Managers, Govt., PSUs, MNCs, and VI Employees. 5. Mathematics and Reasoning for Preparing for Entrance Examination. 6. DisabilityRights, Obligations and Duties. 7. Communication Skill and Personality Development 8. Open Discuss & Concluding Session. for further information you may contact: Phone: ++ 91-11- 65650969/70 Website: www.blindrelief.org -- thanks and regards, Ramdas shivhare, asst.
