In bangalore atleast, most if not all blinds are allowed free passage to banks without having to stand in line either for note exchange or withdrawal.

SBI is notoriously ubiquitous in everything.
Name anything, and it is in SBI and it is not in SBI.

I was asked to submit xerox copy of my ID proof to deposit demonetized notes in my KYC compliant account after standing in a queue for half an hour.

This training is happening in SBI. Even in case of demonetisation,
SBI made an announcement in the internal site to arrange for
comfortable service to disabled.

100% agree with you Avinash, I think a special module on dealing with
customers with disabilities must be introduced in every bank's
quarterly/ anual training program. It can make each and every employee
aware about the relevant RBI as well as web accessibility guidelines.
I got to know that same is in process for RBS employees working with
the retail business. What do you say?

You are lucky sir. I know many instances in Delhi what to talk of the
rest of the country, blind people are still denied ATMs cards despite
of the fact that in those branches blind people work as employees.

Good write-up, Avinash; except that (I know situation may be different
at
some places) at least those branches I have visited SBI, HDFC, Andhra
Bank
- I have noticed that they are indeed helping people with disabilities,
elderly to exchange notes and withdrawing notes. In fact, in one of the
SBI
branches (Kaggadasapura, Bangalore) where bank is located in 1st floor
and
ground floor they have locker operations, they have arranged to
facilitate
elderly and people with disabilities at ground floor itself.

Thanks for sharing.

Dear All, Your comments are welcome.
I'd be happy and article will serve its purpose if friends working in
various banks can share this piece with the top management in their
banks. It would be even better if some of you can tweet this piece to
the Finance Ministry twitter handle.

Despite the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) repeatedly issuing circulars
to all scheduled commercial banks across the country to provide
banking facilities to customers with disabilities at a par with
non-disabled people, the majority of disabled people continue to be
inconvenienced by the banks. The situation is especially grim in rural
areas particularly post-demonetization.
