HYDERABAD: Like the two-faced Janus of Greek mythology
new portable PCs will soon look two ways one at the
user, another at his or her audience. Dual
display tablet PCs, with two screens, back to back,
will be commercially launched worldwide, sometime this
month. It was showcased at the Infocomm IT event,
held here recently.
Made by South Korean company e-Detail, the products
are specially designed for professionals who need to
make one-on-one presentations. A notebook can
only be used by one person, while the MultiWeb pad
and the Prezenter can be used by two persons
simultaneously with the help of a dual touch screen.
Incidentally, both have the functionality of a
conventional PC with a Windows XP operating system,
with two touch screens, one 14-inch and the second
7-inch-diagonal.
The Prezenter works as an e-brochure and is
optimised for presentations: The presentation hotkey
enables instant access, without any booting time. The
Multi Web Pad has more versatile functions.
The CEO of the company Kang Dong Youn, who worked with
GlaxoSmithKline, Citibank, Peugeot and Eli & Lilly in
Korea as a professional sales representative
for many years, found the notebook useless for
presentations due to its single screen and long
booting time. Then, he came up with the idea of
developing
these products.
Janice Kong, Director (Sales) of the company said:
India is likely to be the first to see the product.
The company was expecting a $10 billion sales the
world over and $300 million in India in the next few
years. It was likely to be priced around $1,600
(approximately Rs. 60,000) in India. We are not
competing
with the PC market although it is PC, she said,
asserting that there were no competitors as of now.
