Yeah these are the only 2 probable solutions which come to mind. Personally during my calls I sometimes use NVDA OCR, it works well with powerpoint presentations. But fails when the presenter is presenting some rather inaccessible application. Sometimes zooming in and performing OCR will give results as well on screens which were not getting identified before.
