Leaving a job is not a bad idea. But, you have to ensure the same or more amount or income in newer job before quittin this sir. Based on english literature degree, i feel you can try for software documentation in IT field, or writing reviews on books/films or editer in news paper. There should be many jobs based on your interest which you have to start searching slowly. Until that, continuing public sector job will be suitable. Telephone related jobs in public sector will vanish within 15 years i assume due to automated softwares in digital lending etc.
