GUWAHATI: Aspiring college teachers with physical disabilities in Assam will have to face medical boards mandatorily to prove their infirmity level before getting a job.Sources in the education department told TOI that in view of complaints of adopting fraudulent means to acquire Persons with Disability (PwD) certificates, screening by medical boards has become a new norm to filter the genuine candidates. On Wednesday, 37 candidates with disabilities were sent to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) even though they had already acquired the certificates which “verify their disabilities”.Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had asked the state education department to screen the specially-abled employees, who were appointed last year, by a medical board.
