Wow, this sounds fantastically interesting! I wonder if a person born
totally blind can benefit from such a concept though. If a person could see
before, then they can be trained to associate the sound frequencies with the
visual ones they have experienced in the past, and perhaps this way they can
develop substitution of sight by sound. But what do you think about those of
us like myself, who has never seen, not even colours, not even light and
dark, from birth? Perhaps the best we can hope for with this concept is to
make our own meaning association, purely based on things we already know in
our world such as the crude association of objects by touch. I would think
then we would have to learn how to illiminate all the other visual stimulae
represented by sound, that we cannot relate to because they don't make sense
in our world, such as colours and 3-D imaging Etc, which we only know as
concepts rather than by conscious experience (in Sanskrit we refer to the
difference between Jnana (theoretical knowledge) and vijnana (realization by
experience).

I was talking about the vOICe. It is a program that converts live images to
sound. You can then do pattern recognition in your head and determine what
you are looking at.
The electrical signals that your brain gets when hearing these sounds are
the same as those it gets when receiving light from organic eyes.
The vOICe works on the principal of sensory substitution where it replaces
sound with vision.
There is no artificial intelligence involved.
Programs such as envision, supersense etc., use artificial intelligence to
do things like object recognition.
You should think of artificial intelligence as a way for a computer to
solve a problem and not as the adding of human like intelligence.

will need to determine what kind of color contrast you have in your
