Background music is music during studying proves disturbing to VI generally on following counts: 1 We need to listen to speech synthesizer during studying and background music interferes with it. 2 Music gives focus during studying. But it disturbs if another sound is of more focus.

I need complete silence whilst listening to Mr. Read. I have to concentrate on every single word and need to be very focussed on the document. So its up to the student I love multitasking but I don’t get great results. I switch to music after my document. The theory was that multi tasking was good but now the scientists say it isn’t though music is supposed to be good. Let’s say if you are using or if you’re working with computer, then there are programmes like VLC media player and all in which you can lower the volume so that the background music is audible, but it does not interrupt Screen reader. That’s one option. Second option would be you can have another separate device in which music being played in low volume so that it doesn’t interrupt your screen so either way I don’t think it affects concentration as much. It is definitely possible to work or study with background music. Ask the student to begin with low volume background music. If it feels comfortable, all right, otherwise will have to do without it. Background music does help in drowning out the outside noise sometimes. Many sighted students find that background music can help them focus, especially when solving math problems. However, for visually impaired students, the challenge is balancing their attention between the screen reader and the music. , I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this topic. Are there any strategies or accommodations you’ve found helpful for visually impaired students who prefer to study with background music? Regards. Cauvery, She/her -- Disclaimer: 1.
