Unlike the majority, I really enjoy the commentary on TV (ESPN Star) compared
to the radio's running commentary where only the ball-to-ball description is
spoken and other information/discussion is often neglected. + the quality isn't
up to my liking. Anyhow, watching cricket on TV makes me feel lot closer to the
game than listening the radio.
I am only referring to cricket here.

  Respected George sir,
Firstly I will thank you for razing such a sensitive matter which is
definetly in the favor of maximum in the community.
Watching sports is one of the most common hobbies of human beings.
The type of sport may vary, but the natural zeel remain same in
  everyone all around the world.
Though sports event are happening since very long, but there won't be
any exaguration to say that media played a very vital role in
  popularizing them.
In fact, almost every common man takes interest in watching the live
telecast of matches on tv or listen the commentary on radio.
Earlier DD started this work in india, but now many sports channels
are accomplishing this task with great enthusiasm.
Reason is that because a great number of mass watches the telecast,
the scope of promoting the prodict is very much for companies.
The sports channels get a big amount of money from companies to show
  their adds during the matches.
As we said that almost everyone likes the sports, visually impaired
people can not be separated from the statement.
radio has been a very good friend of a visually impaired since long.
This not only gives them the flare of music and news, but also
present sport's commentaries which gives a big amount of pleasure to
  visually impaired people.
Unfortunately, because of some rights and other related issue, AIR
doesn't brought cast every match/ series. therefore, the one and only
  alternative is TV.
While Imerging technologies and trends made the experience of
watching matches more entertaining for cited persons, this created
some problems for visually impaired people.
As we are completely dependant on the commentary, inaccessible
commentary has produced many problem in order to understand the live
  actions.
Specially, the commentary brought casted on international channels
like ESPN, star sports, sony max, z cricket etc. really made the
task of enjoying live sporting actions very difficult.
The unfortunate part is that now a days,
Door darshan is also brought casting the same commentary as other
international channels which abolished the last hope too.
As a summary, enjoying the sports through TV has became a very
  challenging task for us.
Though problem is same for whole world I suppose, but I will talk
about india only because I better know the actual situation of only
  here .
As we know that india has biggest misfortune of having maximum
visually impaired in whole world, it's the responsibility of
everyone to provide accessible environment for them.
As I already told that like everyone else, sports is one of the basic
requirement of the lives of differently ables.
The TV channels will have to understand the need of providing
accessible commentary of sports so that every visually impaired person
can easyly understand and enjoy the live action.
Though it's understandable that making them completely accessible is
very difficult if not impossible, but it's a high time for sports
channels to think about adding some fair accessibility features in the
  commentary.
Here are some suggestion which must implemented.
  1. Commentriators should announce score after every minute at least.
  2. They should speak the names of players time to time. For
example, if it's cricket, name of baller, name of striking batsman,
   name of fielders, etc.
  3. Sometimes, they don't tells the discribtion of very important
happenings. For example, if it's cricket, four, six, wicket,
etc. they should give it's discribtion sincerely instead of
  discussions.
  4. They should speak the important stats/ records which are presented
time to time on TV screens. For example, if it's cricket, number
of wicket for a baller, number of matches for batsman, number of
  catches, etc.
  5. They should announce all the other relevant informations related to
  the particular sport.
If TV channels can consider the above suggestions, they can make
visually impaired enable in enjoying sports.
  With profound regards,
  Prateek agarwal.
