Dear members, I was very happy to see that in the third phase of the elections
held on 30th April 2009, all the rules regarding accessibility were fully
complied with. I belong to Dombivali, which comes under the Kalyan
Constituency. Here the ramps were found right from the entrance gate. As soon
as I entered the booth, everybody was ready to help me. I was asked whether I
knew Braille and when I said yes, I was given the Ballot paper in Braille to
read. There are 20 candidates contesting elections from this constituency. The
EVM had the serial numbers and the names of all the 20 candidates written in
Braille and I could read them very clearly. This is a collective victory of
all of us. It is true that still a lot is to achieved but a strong beginning
has been made. I congratulate all those who have constantly struggled for this
facility.
Thanking you,
Yours,
Professor Shyam M. Sayanekar
