It's not about commercial intent, but I feel it's about Bharat's idea of
maintaining his personal space and the supposed control he has over it.
Unfortunately, the control one may have on his or her private virtual
space is the same as the space itself --virtual.

Certainly, we are free to agree or disagree with the means Book bole is

using to promote their services. They have used the auto subscription
facility to make it easier for blind and visually impaired potential
subscribers. If someone does not want to subscribe, they just need to
unsubscribe. I do not believe that Book bole has any kind of commercial
or
vested interest in doing what they are doing.

Regards,

George

Dear sir,
with due respect to your thoughts, i strongly beg to differ from you
in
the matter. whether or not someone would want to do good to me, i guess,
i
would rather not have an automated 'good' come my way.
for example, in the same instance, while you don't mind being
auto-subscribed to a list or a forum, i don't want it, even if it is
for my
good.
i would definitely unsubscribe from their lists, however, by the
shere
logic of it all, i should be unsubscribed by the same mechanism by which
i
was subscribed!!
again, please do not misunderstand me, i really don't mean any
insult to
any of the people here, however, i definitely express a very strong
disagreement about the dubious practices of such llists & forums.
compare
bookbol with accessindia, while accessindia is also there for social &
greater good of the blind, it does not send any promotional &
unsolicited
bulk & spam messages to promote itself & still, it has over more than a
thousand members.
i hope you would agree with me there?
    with kind regards to all,
    bharat.

Well, I also received an invitation from bookbole. Perhaps they got my
name
and email from Daisy forum. Since this is not a profit-making
organisation
and they are looking forward to serving our reading requirements, I
rather
welcome their initiative. Unless they collect some email addresses from
old
groups, how they can approach us? You had better write to them for
stopping
the mails to you.

Best regards,
Amiyo Biswas.

allabout?

hi all,

before all of you become angry about the reason i am forwarding this
mail to
you, i would like to inform you right at the outset that for a long time
now, i have been receiving unsolicitted emails in an astonomical number
from
bookbol.

while the concept of this community seems to be good & something i have
always advocated, at no point in time, have i subscribed to this
community &
the below mail is a clear violation of my personal space & privacy.

the only intention behind sending this mail to accessindia is to alert
you
all about the auto-subscribe options of such communities & a clear
violation
of individual privacy.

i have a lot more to say with regard to the practices, norms & privacy
policy of this site, however, would just say that, any mass mail does
not
become a genuine intent just by adding a working or most of the times, a
non-working unsubscribe link at the bottom of every message, a practice
which has become quite common with regard to todays spam messages as
well.

i may, purely by will, decide to become a part of this community in
future
but i would urge upon all the administrators to refrain from any such
auto-subscribe options to be incorporated in their practices.

in the end, i sincerely appologies for having sent this mail across to
accessindia yet again but i hope, my intention would be taken in the
right
spirit.

with kind regards,

bharat.
