Yesterday, I have also discovered quite by accident that Windows XP,
despite me shutting it down, wasn't shutting down since the on sreen
keyboard remained open. I shall follow the instructions you had given.

Look at the options of the utility manager. You should be able to
disable
the onscreen keyboard from there.

Folks: 
 
As I was spell checking a document in MS word (2003) in my laptop, I
accidentally pressed windows key and U. This opened up the utilities key
and "narrator" started to speak. I extinguished this unexpected
firestorm of gibberish by continuously pressing alt F4, but as an after
effect of this I found a window called 'onscreen keyboard' open all the
time. I don't know how to shut this off. As someone rightly said, this
is not "windows narrator", but "windows irritator".
