In case this happens to someone else. First, I moved all the emails from
the inbox into another folder. Then, I went to the dbx files in outlook
express and deleted the inbox file. While I was there, I found a lot of out
of date dbx files that were taking up space and deleted those as well. Upon
re-opening outlook express, the inbox appeared again as before, but without
the offending email message. Now all is working normally.
