A question just for my knowledge:
Deleting inbox will also delete the messages stored in it.
What I normally do is that I keep my important messages in inbox with hide
read messages view applied.
What can be the solution to this problem except taking backup time to time?
I fully understand that in such situations where you were today, sometimes
we are left with no option than to loos our important data also.

In case this happens to someone else. First, I moved all the emails from
the inbox into another folder. Then, I went to the dbx files in outlook
express and deleted the inbox file. While I was there, I found a lot of
out of date dbx files that were taking up space and deleted those as well.
Upon re-opening outlook express, the inbox appeared again as before, but
without the offending email message. Now all is working normally.
