you are right sir, one extra care to be taken for all customer is, the 3 digit code number is printed on credit card. for safety, we have to remember that number, and better is to erase that number from the credit card. or you can make dark marking on that number. so, nobody can easily access it.

It is good, Rahul.
Now, the tragedy of the story is as follows.
Firstly, photo credit cards should be issued for all and not only for blind. I had suggested this to RBI committee about four years back, along with the suggestion that a PIN like ATM debit card be also prescribed for credit cards which the customer should be able to change.

However, said suggestions did not find favor, supposedly due to the fact no such things are done in western countries for credit cards and so, Monkeys that we are, would not be able to implement all these things.
I am glad in your case they at least gave photo card.
Secondly, this individual victory would not be translated into general practice across the banks BY DEFAULT. Such is the system here that everyone has to wage a lonely crusade to AVAIL the due rights.

Interestingly enough RBI has issued an advisory making various ombudsman directives as general directives to banks. But this practice of giving photo credit cards to VI, if otherwise eligible, would BE so made at a future date, I am not sure.

Hello all,

This Circular is a result of a 6 months long crusade held between PNB,
and banking ombudsman. Last year I filed a complaint with RBI banking
ombudsman office.
In March 2010 PNB communicated through a letter to me that they will
come out with a policy on the subject matter till 31st may.

Last month PNB communicated through a letter to collect a global
credit card, and requested to close the complaint from BO office.
This credit card is similar to a normal VISA card but an additional
feature is that they have prefixed my passport size photograph on the
card.
The amazing part of the story is that card has been issued to me on
thumb impression.

PNB has provided me with all the banking services, internet banking,
debit card, and now this credit card, but all of the products took
more than a year to be issued as all of the times I had to nock the
dors of reserve bank .

I am relief to know that now PNB has come out with a circular and
fulfilled its commitment to banking ombudsman.

Thanks
Rahul Gambhir

amounting to Rs.300/- per month. and a wireless lan modem costing around
Rs.2000/- total cost around Rs.58000/- a complainent may deduct the cost
of screen reader if he is using crack.

Let the people file a litigation with the Ombudsman against PNB that how
a blind can afford such expensive devices in a poor country like ours.
But they still need credit cards. Let us see what the Ombudsman decides.

So, I can read my statement online.
I wonder why PNB does not require that I have a functioning Personal
computer with screen reader installed on it and with active internet
connection! and also that I ensure nobody spies on me when I use such a
gadget to read my statement!

And, yes, even if I don't have a voice-enabled mobile and ask anyone to
read out the messages, they cannot know anything but the amount of
transaction and date thereof.
It is not possible to forge card details from it.

My friends, give up the habit of "My country, write or wrong", and do
not justify any arbitrary conditions merely because your own institution

prescribes them, or they are high-sounding technological gadgets which
we want to make compulsory.

Each transaction is communicated through SMS immediately after
transaction
happens and no any ceiling or floor amount. Statement can be viewed in
its
website.

Well, I believe you can always download your credit card statements
from
the website.
Online checking is also possible.
Only SMS required to be sent is in case of transaction involving more
than
Rs. 5000.
So. what happens when A vi has the intimations and statements checked
by
any other means than voice enabled mobiles?
And I am curious how many SMS it takes to send a monthly credit card
statements?
I believe it is not wise to do so.
A soft copy coupled with online facility for statements is the norm.
All said and done, I smell PNB'S arbitrariness in having the
requirement
of mobile phone with voice which would cost me between Rs. 15 and 20
Thousand.

good to see PNB doing something positive for the visually challenged.
one clarification though, why is PNB insisting on a voice enabled
phone? would a screenreader enabled laptop or a netbook do instead?
and hopefully, the PNB follows this initiative with meaningful actions
so that people need not blaim the organization itself.
