There is a better and easier way of handeling this issue. If you end-up changing your settings to the standard view by mistake, just close the window and open the browser and type m.gmail.com. It will open the mobile site. Now type your user ID, password and hit enter. Your mailbox will open in html view. Now open any message and select the link "set html as the default view and hit enter. That's it and you don't have to deal with any of their customer service which is not the greatest in India.
