*19 August 2011* *New Delhi* : Three women have been awarded by the ministry of women and child development for their exemplary work for the welfare of marginalised children in different parts of the country, a statement said Friday.
Mira Kagti of Assam, one of the awardees, was given the recognition for her work in providing education, rehabilitation and training services to children suffering from cerebral palsy and persons with disability. Her NGO, Shishu Sarothi, which was established in 1987, has benefitted around 800 children and their families. Doing her bit to help orphans and mentally challenged children and working for the rehabilitation of deaf, blind and physically challenged children, S.A. Thasleem Sulthana of Andhra Pradesh was also awarded for her efforts. The third awardee, Mallika Nadda of Himachal Pradesh, was also given the recognition for her work for mentally challenged children. The award, Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award for Service to Children, was initiated in 1994 to honour those who have made outstanding contribution towards the cause of children. These three women have been conferred for the year 2010.
