One question is if we need to get the scanner serviced as any part in
scanner can be malfunctioning or dust and bad surface make a
difference..

I think the accuracy of scanning document depends upon the quality
scanner somewhere, HP Jet2400 is a basic scanner and may not give as
better result as other better scanners. If you are a partially person
then do scan in kurzweil keeping images enabled, it will be benificial
for you in the situation where unclear text appears, you can see the
image of the page by pressing controll+w.
I am also five year law bachelor degree holder and completed my
masters in international law. I have many law books scanned, if you
need any particular please do let me know. I wll be providing you.

but let me know one thing, how do you edit the text after converting

fine reader? because, with fine reader, we can get either of RTF, PDF
or TXT
outputs as per my knowledge. if you get it in RTF or TXT, you will be

the text but not the images. in that case, you have to look into the
original printed material for correction. if you get it in PDF, you
get the
images but not the text and you can not read and edit it. that is why
I
prefer Kurzweil for scanning purposes. also send the scanned book
without
correction. but remember you have to send it privately off the list or
through dropbox or sendspace as the attachments are not allowed in the
list.

I am using HP scan Z 2400 for scanning and Abby fine reader (10
version) for conversion.
the configuration of my hard disc is 500 GB with 4GB RAM.
the resolution set up is 300, the brightness is 50%
if you want, I can send you the copy of scanned images also.
