1. Can I have this Drop box folder under my D drive? Is it simply
cutting and pasting the Drop box folder from my C drive to the D
drive or does it have to be done in some other way?
***
To change your dropbox folder do the following:
click on the system tray by pressing insert+f11
Choose dropbox and then choose prefferences.
Then press tab. use jaws cursor you will find change option.
there select the relevant folder then press okay and you should be
ready to go.
2. Do we have to save our files and folders only under the Public
folder which was by default created under the drop box folder for
them to get automatically uploaded and updated? Or can we also create
and save private files and folders under the drop box folder itself
for them to get uploaded and updated?
***
You can create as many folders and files on dropbox it doesn't matter.
The public folder is especially created to share the public link for
your friends to download files.
Once a file is pasted in public folder you can copy the Link and share
with your friends when the upload is complete and they will be able to
download it.
3. Are our files and folders that we create and save under the public
folder which is of course under the drop box folder freely and openly
accessible by all and sundry on the net? I hope not!
***
Sure not. the files can be opened to only to those whom you will share
the link with.
and no one else will be able to open the files.

Anyway, Thanks a tonne.
And now before I try out anything foolish again, I had 3 doubts viz.
1. Can I have this Drop box folder under my D drive? Is it simply cutting and pasting the Drop box folder from my C drive to the D drive or does it

2. Do we have to save our files and folders only under the Public folder

Excuse me for my ignorance but I just want to make sure that my precious
files and folders are completely safe and secure before I embark on Drop
box.
Many thanks in advance Dear Harish and others.
Regards, Rishi.

Hi Rishi
If you make any changes or modifications to the files on:
"C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Desktop\Drop box/Public/ Rishi's notes
It will get updated and backed up on dropbox.

When you do so on your D drive folder it will have no effect as Dropbox is

unaware of it. It uploads only the files on dropbox folder.

I hope this clarifies your doubt.
Harish Kotian.

Hi Harish, Vamshi and Umesha,
I was following this thread about automatic online backup of our files and folders on Dropbox. But the automatic upload and update feature does not seem to be working on my end. I don't know where am I going wrong or what
am
I missing
out on?
Request you guys to guide.
I successfully created my account on Drop box and installed the Drop box
programme on my Laptop.
By default there were 2 folders under the Drop box folder viz. Photos and
Public.
I copied a folder from my D drive namely, Rishi's notes, which contains a
couple of folders and files and pasted it in the Public folder of the
Drop
Box folder which is under "C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Desktop\Drop
box

But after I worked/modified some of the files and also created a
couple
of new files under the Rishi's notes folder on my hard disk i.e ( D
drive),
they did not get automatically updated and uploaded in the Drop box folder
i.e
"C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Desktop\Drop box/Public/ Rishi's notes

My laptop is always connected to the internet through Airtel broadband
connection.
Please correct my understanding if I've gone wrong anywhere.
How do I succeed in this automatic backup feature provided by Drop box?
Awaiting your kind guidance,
Rishi.

no, not the shortcuts, original files and folders have to be saved in
dropbox folder. dropbox folder is just a special folder in your computer. there will be a subfolder called private within that folder. you have to
save all your files and folders that you want to be backed up into this
folder. if the dropbox program in your computer is active and connected
to
internet, it will automatically upload and update those files into the
web.

Does saving to the drop box folder mean creating a short cut of the
folder and pasting it in the drop box? If the original folder gets
deleted, will the folder in the drop box be available?

Dear friends,

I am working on my PhD thesis. I am writing lot of material every day and don't want to loose it in case of any system crash. Can I have an
on line back up of one of the folders on drop box so that whenever I
write a document or update an existing document in that folder,
there should be an automatic back up on the drop box without me
requiring to do that manually?

Awaiting guidance.
