You can also select the symbols by bringing up the symbol dialog box.
Hot key is (Insert + 4).
This can be activated in any edit field or in the document.

This was exciting for me to learn today, although not much to add to your
knowledge I think you might find it handy sometime.
We all use US keyboards, thus the $ symbol is easily typed by pressing the
Shift+4 key. But how do you get the pound and yen symbol in a US keyboard?
Keep the alt key pressed followed by the numbers below to get the listed
Symbols:
Pound: 156
Yen: 0165
Try it out it really works! And please feel free to share more currency
symbols that you think we can do with the US keyboard.
