Yes looks very strange to me as well. What brand of a netbook is it? is it Samsung? I think your friend must have pressed some key in combination with FN key. I've come across somewhat a similar keyboard layout on a Toshiba laptop where the user pressed FN+f11 and the keyboard layout would change after that. One more reason for this issue could be change in display layout. Can you have somebody check if the display is up side down? If so then you could use control + alt + arrow keys to set the display right and check if this resolves the issue.
