I don't think it is due to change in keyboard lay out or display orientation. any keyboard lay out does not swap use left arrow for right arrow and vice versa. change of display also does not cause this. a mis oriented display only looks different to a sighted user. it does not change in any other manner for a jaws user. for example, if the display is upside down, pressing down arrow moves the curser upwards and vice versa. but then, the text paragraph will also be upside down. so, pressing a down arrow will only moves it to next line which is at the top of the earlier one and not to previous line. any change in display orientation can be rectified by pressing Ctrl + Alt + up arrow. it makes the display upside up regardless of the previous condition. note: one has to pass this key combination through jaws by pressing jaws key + 3 before because the same key is assigned to move to upper cell in a table. I am also facing the same problem quite often since last month. now and then I am trying for the solution. it is due to the installing complex and right to left scripts. if I find a solution as I certainly hope to get soon, I will inform the list.

Yes looks very strange to me as well. What brand of a netbook is it? is it
Samsung?
I think your friend must have pressed some key in combination with FN key.
I've come across somewhat a similar keyboard layout on a Toshiba laptop
where the user pressed FN+f11 and the keyboard layout would change after
that.
One more reason for this issue could be change in display layout. Can you
have somebody check if the display is up side down? If so then you could use
control + alt + arrow keys to set the display right and check if this
resolves the issue.

Hi Ajay,

Have been trying to find a solution for this issue. Unfortunately, there is
no tech forum that has reported such an issue. There were some posts on
applications like word and powerpoint where the arrow keys on the keyboard
behaved inverted. The solutions there were not convincing, they mainly
talked about language settings for those documents or applications. Also the
keyboard settings in control panel under settings. I will do some more
homework on the same and get back to you. It is truly a strange problem and
a challenging one too!

Subject: [AI] Need help on a strange issue with typing.

Hi friends,
I have a visually challanged friend who is facing a strainge problem with
her netbook and desktop. I am pasting the message which describes the
complete problem.
Here it starts

The cursor moves right when I press left arrow key and moves left when I
press right arrow key.
And one problem is when I press backspace for deleting any character from
the middle of a sentence it deletes the right character rather than the left
one which it should and Then if you continue typing anyway ignoring the
problem there in the middle of the sentence , it keeps deleting the text on
the right and continues typing over it.
She is using office 2003 with win7 starter in netbook and windows XP in her
desktop. Please try to solve this problem. Your valluable suggestions will
be highly appreciated.
thanks in advance
