there's no need to register for the master/visa secure code beforehand. you can do so on the fly while making a payment - after entering your card credentials, the payment gateway takes you to the screen for entering the secure code where you can click on "forgot password" and follow the instructions for creating a secure code. This screen also requires you to enter verification details. I've done it this way for both the categories of credit cards and am using the service successfully.
