Hi, You are talking completely different technologies here. Reading LCD displays is a function of visible light. You can already do this for some displays by using phone based OCR solutions. Infrared detection is meant for detecting heat signatures. You use infrared goggles when you want to see heat signatures at night. Do a search for terms like thermal imaging for more information.
