Thanks for the information. I think, data and statistics on the disabled persons will help. I tried www.censusindia.gov.in from my office computer. But the navigation is too slow and irritating. Can anyone suggest a good site or send me the data by private email?

My friend has asked me to prepare a write-up on it. So you understand my problem. My home pc works fine, but I can't work on it until Sunday.

Hi,

This is a very fascinating topic to discuss..
I am not aware of any Indian visually impaired politicians. Or at least I wasn't until I read your post. But there have been many blind politicians in other countries.. The former governor of New York City, David Paterson, is completely blind.. British MP and former union minister David Plunkett is also blind. He travels everywhere with his guide dog, even to the House of Commons. This has led to a few funny incidents.. Even Gordon Brown is blind in one eye, but I don't think that matters much.. Many disabled politicians try to hide their disability in order to show that they are not weak. The best example being JFK, who never even allowed anyone to take a single picture of him in his wheelchair.

Dear all,

This is turning out to be an interesting discussion.

I understand that the visually challenged community is not of a substantial size to be able to effectively influence an election. However, how about we broaden the scope and rally the entire disabled community at large. Further, if we were able to enlist support of the family and friends of the members
of the disabled community, perhaps we would be able to reach a critical
mass.
