There is no specific law in our country that says a married woman has to
use her husband's surname. She can choose which surname she wants to use
after marriage. It is only a custom to change the surname. Large number of
my friends do not use their husband's surname and do not face problems
anywhere.

Not just feminists, because of the inconvenience, many women prefer to use
paternal surname - it causes much trouble to change surname from all
official documents.

I can write more on this issue giving examples. however I presume this
issue is not under mandate of this list-serve.
