But these devices are confined to publications in academic journals or paper presentations in science conferences. We are yet to have a sophisticated smart cane which can be used in the daily life, especially in Indian conditions. Neverthless, such efforts are surely praise worthy. Let us hope one such experiment instills the confidence in an enterprise that manufacturing such a device in commercial lines is a sustainable venture. Efforts by NGOs in sensitizing corporates about the viability of such product, possible subsidy by governments, etc. can help in taking this idea forward.
