news for braille readers:

MUMBAI: Since the past four months, the inheritors of Veer Savarkar's
legacy have devoted themselves to translating 14 of his books in
Braille. This labour of love will be unveiled on Tuesday morning at
the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak opposite Shivaji Park.

"The collection is divided into 24 volumes comprising 3,900 pages. It
is in English, so blind readers across the country can access it. The
copies are printed in the best quality paper that can last up to 50
years," said smarak chairman Ranjit Savarkar. The trust collaborated
with the National Association for the Blind and Language Empire for
the translation.

Ashok Shinde, who executed the project, said, "These books will be
made available free of cost on our upcoming multilingual web site of
13 languages, including Braille."

The freedom fighter whom the British had sentenced to the Andamans was
a prolific writer. The Mangeshkars' rendition of his poem, 'Sagara
pran talamalala' remains a favourite on radio.
