I don't know why. I still find Set basic html as default view as one of the
links on my desktop and laptop. I have IE8 and 9, Firefox 32 and 19. It
includes my desktop and laptop.
The webvisum problem seems solved too. During last week it worked on both my
computers. My stars are sining bright now perhaps.

I had set Basic HTML as my default view some time ago via the same
method.
Just to verify that this method still works, I switched to Standard
View and then back to Basic HTML view. There was certainly a link 'Set
Basic HTML As Default View'.
If you can't find it via the Links List dialog try down arrowing after
a Ctrl Home, because the link is somewhere on the top of the page.
