Dear all, This is a good initiative by ND TV. But such programs are very rare. Media should play important role in accessibility awareness and raising accessibility issues of persons with disabilities. Here in Pune no any public place is accessible including foothpath, city bus stop, buses, government buildings, colleges and universities, railway stations, local trains, air port etc. Not only weel chaire users but also we visually impaired people face difficulties while using public places. Walking on foothpath is more than hazardus as there are man holes, several ups and downs, electric poles in bitween, branches of trees and many more hurdles which can't be identified by our white cane. Trafic lights are cross walk etc also inaccessible. no need to say about city buses. They are not made for persons with disabilities. Here media is not playing any role to raise such issues as they think that it can't generate TRP. E-governance services, web services of colleges and universities is also inaccessible. several time i brought in to the notice to concern athorities . But no response. I think we should start celibrating world accessibility awareness day 9th may every year and spread awareness about accessibility and creation of barrier free environment not only for persons with disabilities but also for all. Only accessible and barrier free environment will make us independant. otherwise we are dependant in this independant nation.
