Chennai: A mahila court in Chennai has sentenced a 40-year-old auto
driver to seven years of rigorous imprisonment on the charge of
sexually abusing a visually-challenged woman. Special public
prosecutor Gowri Asokan said Selvi, 24, of Gudiyatham was keen on
learning music and English language. She had planned to join Sangeetha
Kalalayam Trust run by Senthilkumar in Villivakkam. On March 21, 2010,
she reached Chennai Central by train and boarded a bus to Villivakkam.
After reaching Villivakkam bus stop, she decided to go the music
school in an autorickshaw at 4 pm. Auto driver R. Anbu Selvam came
forward to drop her at the place.

After boarding the three-wheeler, she called Senthilkumar and informed
him that she will reach the school in 10 minutes. However, Anbu, after
30 minutes’ drive, took her to a secluded place. After parking it, he
entered into the passenger place and began touching her. She pleaded
with him to show mercy and leave her alone as she was visually
challenged. When he persisted, she raised a cry, saying ‘Jesus save
me’.

Hearing her scream, two school students, passing-by, rushed to the
spot and asked Anbu why she was crying. Immediately, locals rushed to
the spot and rescued Selvi. They also caught Anbu. On a complaint from
her, the Villivakkam police registered a case and arrested Anbu. He
remained in prison since then.On completion of trial, mahila court
judge Meena Sathish sentenced him to seven years rigorous
imprisonment.
