Does this happen all the time with all mails or some times with certain specific kind of mails? Does restarting nvda help? Does opening the mail message again help? Does maximizing the message window help?
I have also seen this problem occur some time but don't have a specific set of steps to replicate this. In any case, a better place for this discussion is the NVDA users list or the nvda dev list, where you will get more concrete and useful suggestions.
