I tried The tip of combining the files from the dos prompt and it
works fine, but it is tedious especially with messages split into
50 parts and the dos command character limit. Does anyone know of a
utility to combine files automatically?

        I use Outlook Express+Win 98. When i download a zipped file using
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to get zipped files from the same site,
the messages are split up into separate sections. The 1st message
contains a zip file attachment, but its size is a small fraction
of what the whole zip should be. The rest of the messages have
garbled text in the body, no atchmnt. (text which you find if you
open an executable in notepad) Help me find a way to 'combine' the
message and make it readableto winzip. the first atchmnt is 'not
a complete zip file'. that's what winzip says.

Well, I'm using Outlook 97 with Win NT, but I imagine this method should
also work with Outlook Express.

I find the simplest method is just to select all the parts of the
multipart file (holding down the <CTRL> key and clicking on the header of
each message) and 'Save As' text. ( (F)ile/Save (A)s - in Outlook ). This
should concatenate all the files into a single text file. Be sure to save
the file with the extension UUE for a uuencoded file (ie: Temp.uue ), which
I'll assume is the encoding you're using. Then, all you have to do is load
the .UUE file with WinZip, I use WinZip v6.3, and it should decode it. I
find it convenient, since I've never needed to sort the files, delete
message headers, or concatenate by DoS.

I've tried this method many times with files received via
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and haven't encountered any problems yet. It
also lets me decode multiple files, so in the case I receive two or three
multi-part files, I can extract them all from the same temp.uue file.

  I hope this is helpful.

I find the easiest way to get messages from newsgroups like alt.2600
is to use the [EMAIL PROTECTED] server;

Simply send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] as such;

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
subject: SEND news://news.demon.co.uk/alt.2600

This will reply with the last 30 postings to that news group,
Its then a matter of copy & pasting the relevent link into a new message.

Hope this helps.

These files show in specific detail how to use email to
retrieve files, programs and documents from FTP and WWW sites, etc.
In other words, how to get just about anything by email. The files
are FREE and everything mentioned in them is also FREE. You can now
get these files individually or together in zipped format as well as
in text format. Substitute the file that you want in place of the XXX
in the URL below and add a line for each additional file requested.
Files available are:
email4u.txt getit4u.txt fun4u.txt pix4u.txt
email4u.zip getit4u.zip fun4u.zip pix4u.zip 4useries.zip

Only the .txt files are available here:

send http://members.aol.com/bombagirl/freeware/XXX

They are also available via an autoresponder.
Send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This will tell you how to get each of the documents. They are the full
text, not zipped, so Juno users won't be able to get the email4u file.

Mail should have a meaningful subject heading which reflects the
content of the message -- it helps others to find messages of interest
(and is necessary if you receive a lot of messages per day), and it
helps to follow a thread on a particular topic.

Non-meaningful subjects are:
1. empty or blank subjects

3. Subject: A question
4. Subject: Re: ACCMAIL Digest ....

Make sure your post isn't off-topic. In particular, this mailing
list doesn't deal with topics like:

- Do you want to make $$$.
- I want to chat with someone.
- Hi, I'm new to the list and I want to make friends.
- General use of your computer -- instead ask a specific question like
is there a FAQ available on modems?
- Where do I get this or that software -- instead ask how to retrieve it
  via email.
- Where do I find information on ??? -- instead ask how do I find
  information concerning ??? via email.
- Windows 95 problems -- instead ask where do I find information
regarding a problem (email address, mailing list, web page. etc.)

===================
N E T I Q U E T T E
===================

DON'T include the entire contents of a previous posting in your reply.

DO cut mercilessly. Leave just enough to indicate what you're
responding to. NEVER include mail headers except maybe the "From:"
line. If you can't figure out how to delete lines in your mailer
software, paraphrase or type the quoted material in.

DON'T SEND A MESSAGE IN ALL CAPS. CAPITALIZED MESSAGES ARE HARDER TO
READ THAN LOWER CASE OR MIXED CASE.

DO use normal capitalization. Separate your paragraphs with blank
lines. Make your message inviting to your potential readers.

DON'T send messages with HTML coding or MIME extensions.

DO learn how to change your E-mail program so that it sends only plain
text ASCII to the list.

Make things easy for the recipient. Many mailers strip header
information which includes your return address. In order to ensure that
people know who you are, be sure to include a line or two at the end of
your message with contact information. You can create this file ahead
of time and add it to the end of your messages. (Some mailers do this
automatically.) In Internet parlance, this is known as a ".sig" or
"signature" file. Your .sig file takes the place of your business card.
(And you can have more than one to apply in different circumstances.)

If you include a signature keep it short. Rule of thumb is no longer
than 4 lines. Remember that many people pay for connectivity by the
minute, and the longer your message is, the more they pay.

Remember that people with whom you communicate are located across the
globe. If you send a message to which you want an immediate response,
the person receiving it might be at home asleep when it arrives. Give
them a chance to wake up, come to work, and login before assuming the
mail didn't arrive or that they don't care.

In general, most people who use the Internet don't have time to answer
general questions about the Internet and its workings. Don't send unsoli
cited mail asking for information to people whose names you might have
seen on mailing lists (especially *MINE*)

Hello,

Is it me unlucky or is it www4mail's fault? Lately *every* request I have
issued has come up as a result to a damaged zip file in my InBox. I also
tried to fix the zip file with pkzipfix. It actually messaged that the CRC
was corrected but the file is unreadable nevertheless.
Anyone else experiencing the same?

MR/2 is a qwk compatible offline reader for OS/2 text mode and has never caused
any problems with ### sequence in UUencoded files (it cannot even try to decode,
I do this manually) - its only limitation is if the digest is over 1000 lines,
in which case I read it on KWQ - another OS/2 reader.

Neither of my readers do this, but both show truncation in the same places, so I
can't think the problem lies with the readers, or with my system. I've been
subscribed to Accmail for over two years and the problem has only recently
become really bad.

> The other cure may be to not take the list as digests.
The digests are the most convenient form, and getting them off the web site
defeats the purpose!

Let's get the record straight! If you look back you will see that my message was
in plain text - my mailer does not support any kind of attachment, either for
sending or receiving, and I suffer the same annoyance and inconvenience as
everyone else on the list from thoughtless or ignorant people who try to post
non-ASCII messages.

I think the truncation problem lies elsewhere.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's me. Did this start in mid-December? If
so, that's when I started using this new machine and Windows 98 with
Eudora rather than my OS/2 box and PMMmail.

When postings are sent to me for approval, I always try to look for
attachments and HTML coding. Most of these I reject. Sometimes I let
through a HTML coded message just to make a point to explain to the
list members.

I don't get the digest so I never would see truncation. I know I don't
see it any of the single postings as I get all of them. Confusing to
say the least. The LISTSERV software has not been changed except for
the owner and some comments.

You can't use it in Kenya. It's for US residents only.

Excerpt from the FAQ:
You can use Juno from anywhere in the United States or Puerto Rico.
Today, there is no international version of Juno for use by people outside
these areas (and due to U.S. export limitations, we are only permitted to
download copies of the Juno software to computers in the U.S.).
Note that when you use Juno from within the United States, you can
exchange e-mail with people located anywhere in the world.
